Umpire in Charge Announcement

Lacrosse Australia (LA) takes great pleasure in announcing the appointment of Tammy Varga to the role of Lacrosse Australia Umpire in Charge (LA UIC).

The LA UIC position on the Women’s National Technical Committee (WNTC) provides leadership and coordination of the recruitment, training, coaching and evaluation of Women’s Lacrosse Officials for the National events run by the Australian Lacrosse Association.

The outgoing Lacrosse Australia Umpire in Charge, Martin Kiploks, is retiring from the position. Martin has been an excellent leader of the women’s field lacrosse officials. He has participated in many World and Australian Lacrosse Championships and is a current World Lacrosse Emeritus Award recipient.  Lacrosse Australia Thanks Martin for his service to Women’s Lacrosse Officiating and wishes him and his family all the best for the future.

Tammy has served on the LA Women’s National Technical Committee in the role of South Australian Umpire in Charge (SA UIC) since the committee was reformed in 2018. She has been a leading official in SA and in Australia at National Events for many years. Tammy will hold the Lacrosse Australia Umpire in Charge position for two years until it is due for reappointment on 31st October 2023.

Tammy’s World Championship Officiating career commenced at the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) U19 Women’s World Cup in Germany in 2011. In 2013 she officiated in Toronto, Canada at the Senior Women’s World Cup. In 2017 she officiated in Guilford, England at the Senior Women’s World Cup., in 2019 she officiated at the World Lacrosse Under 19 World Championship in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
Tammy hopes to continue her commitment to International officiating and umpire development at the World Lacrosse Women’s Senior World Championship in Towson, Maryland USA in 2022.

Lacrosse Australia welcomes Tammy and looks forward to her continuing contribution to Women’s Lacrosse officiating at all levels in Australia.

South Australia Chief Referee – Mark Polden (Mark has been appointed to the casual vacancy due to the recent resignation of Bradley Edwards.)
