Call for Nominations to Join the LA Board

Nominations are now open for three Lacrosse Australia (LA) Elected Director positions.

This position assumes the overall responsibility for the governance of the operations of LA, in line with the Board’s agreed strategic direction.

The primary function of an LA Director is to provide strategic direction to the sport of lacrosse and its stakeholders, while there is also an expectation that Directors provide a hands-on management role and delivery of a portfolio of LA’s operational plan and projects. The LA board is made up of 7 Directors (5 Elected Directors and 2 Appointed Directors). Directors terms are for two years and are eligible to sit for a maximum 8 consecutive years.

Individuals wishing to nominate require the support of a Member Association (see details at the end of doc) for their nomination and also will need to complete and submit the following forms to the LA, via email to secretary@lacrosse.com.au, by the 20th of March 2023 COB AEDT:

 In addition, please be aware that when submitting a nomination, you will:

  • Need to partake in the LA Child Safeguarding Recruitment & Screening process. This process includes holding a phone or zoom meeting with LA representative and go through a set of child safeguarding questions. You will also be asked to provide two reference checks in the nomination form who will also be contacted. Details can be found in our child Safeguarding policy on our website.

  • Have a LA Member Association sign and endorse your nominations. Please contact a Member Association to seek support for your nomination using the details below:

LA welcomes nominations from any interested individual. In addition, LA also welcomes nominations from individuals who may possess any of the following skill sets:

Financial Performance

Qualifications and experience in accounting and/or finance and the ability to:

·         Analyse key financial statements;

·         Critically assess financial viability and performance;

·         Contribute to strategic financial planning;

·         Oversee budgets and the efficient use of resources;

·         Oversee funding arrangements and accountability

Governance, Risk and Compliance

  • Experience in the application of corporate governance principles in a commercial enterprise, not-for-profit enterprise or other regulated entity.

  • Ability to identify key risks to LA in a wide range of areas including legal and regulatory compliance.

  • Experience in the appointment and evaluation of an operational personnel.

Strategy and planning

  • Ability to think strategically; identify and critically assess strategic opportunities and threats. Develop effective strategies in the context of the strategic objectives of LA relevant policies and priorities.

Commercial Experience

  • experience and an understanding of business growth, sport development and engagement of participants

  • A broad range of commercial/business experience, preferably in the small to medium enterprise context, in areas including communications, marketing, branding and business systems, practices and improvement.

Government Relations (policy & process)

  • Experience in managing government relations and industry advocacy strategies.

 Education and Development

  • Training and Assessment and/or curriculum development and understanding of delivery .

Marketing & Communications

  • Knowledge of and experience in marketing services to members and public promotion campaigns.

  • Experience in, or a thorough understanding of, communication with industry groups and/or end users through a range of relevant communication channels. Including social media channels.

Legal

Qualification and experience in legal practice with emphasis on:

  • Sports Industry

  • Not-for-Profit Associations

  • Employment law

  • Health & Safety legislation

Human Resource Management

Qualification and experience in human resource management with an understanding of:

  • Sports Industry

  • Not-for-Profit Associations

  • Employment law

  •  Staff and team member management

Fundraising and Sponsorship

  • Experience in building partnerships and knowledge of best practice in sourcing funds/grants via Sport Rec, LGA or from businesses.

  • Ability to draft and design grant/fund applications.

Project and Large Event management

Experience and expertise in large event management and the management of bidding processes and planning to deliver project.
