Australian joined by 11 newcomers as field for Men’s Box Lacrosse World Championship

Australia has punched their ticket to the 2024 Men’s Box Lacrosse World Championship with World Lacrosse announcing that Australia will join 27 other nations in Utica, New York as Australia looks to storm its way up the World Rankings.

Our Australian Men’s Box team, currently the world number 9, will be joined by all of the top-10 finishers from the 2019 Men’s Box Championship, including Canada, the Haudenosaunee, the USA, England, Israel, Finland, Czech Republic, Netherlands and Germany. Joining the returning powerhouses will also be 11 first timers including Asia Pacific neighbours China, Japan and Chinese Taipei, bolstering the Asia Pacific representation to five (including Hong Kong, China).

“I believe the field in the men’s box championship is as deep and competitive as ever, while also welcoming many first-time participants to the event”, said World Lacrosse CEO Jim Scherr, “I am looking forward to watching the elite and emerging talent compete in New York as we celebrate the global popularity of box lacrosse.”

Australia will head into the 2024 World Championship with a point to prove with the Australian team narrowly missing out on a top 8 finish after dropping a single pool game to Finland with Australia left to steamroll its way through the placement bracket, claiming 9th spot. With the format, pools and schedule set to be announced in early 2024, Australia will be eagerly awaiting the draw, with Australia likely to be in an equally divided Pool B – F, meaning Australia could draw anyone knowing that a clean run through pool play will be critical to Australia’s progression.

The Australia Men’s Box Larosse squad is due to be reduced in the coming days before the 2024 Lacrosse Australian Box Lacrosse National Championship in February 2024 and a final selection camp, with the team to be named in March 2024.
