Australia make it back-to-back wins with dominant effort over Scotland

Australia have made it consecutive wins to start the World Lacrosse Womens U20 Championship, defeating Scotland in Pool C play on Saturday.

The Aussie ladies started the game the better of the two sides, scoring the first 6 goals of the game to race to an early lead with Marley Dawson and Ebony Norman scoring 2 a piece in the early going. Scotland had to wait until the last few minutes to open their account but Australia were in control. That continued in the second quarter with Ocea Leavy quickly bringing up her hattrick as Australia extended the lead to 10 – 1. Scobie got her second for Scotland as the quarter wore on but Leavy added a fourth and Suares-Jury scored late to give Australia a handy 10-goal buffer at the main break.

The third quarter saw the lead continue to swell with Lily Harris and Mia Inge opening Australia’s account before Scotland strung together 3 of the next 4 to get the game back to an 11 goal margin. From there though the result was in the bag with Leavy continuing her torrid run, scoring 2 more late to move to 7 for the game while MVP Dawson continued to keep Scotland in check as Australia cruised to a 19 – 7 win.

Australia’s win moved them to them to the top of Pool C, setting up a tasty clash with fellow Pool C trendsetters Italy in a game that could determine first place in Pool C. Scotland meanwhile will have a day off before they take on Italy on Monday.
