2021 National Event Update

ALA Master Logo

The ALA and all Member Associations (MAs) continue to work together to monitor the current level of restrictions and impacts relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In February, the ALA announced the cancellation of the 2021 U18 National Championships and the postponement of the Senior National Championships. The ALA has been working with our MAs to investigate and identify other dates, formats and opportunities to ensure that players, coaches and officials involved in these events would still have the opportunity to take part in a National Event.

It is with great pleasure the ALA announces:

Senior National Championship

Senior Nationals will be held in conjunction with the U15 National Tournament which is scheduled to be held between 26 of September to the 2 of October in Perth.

The ALA is currently finalising the details and plans relating to the Senior National event however the event will be a state v state National event playing traditional field lacrosse.

While this is a change from our traditional event calendar it is a great opportunity for lacrosse to showcase our sport on a larger scale and to also link the sports best senior players and future youth stars through and within the same event. Further details regarding venues and exact dates will be released in due course.

U20 National Event

The ALA and MAs will work together to host and deliver a U20 National Event in conjunction with the High Performance Southern Crosse Event in January 2022.

It is important to note that additional investigation and planning for this event is underway. Initially, it is envisioned that this event will provide top age players, who missed out on their final year of U18 National Competition in 2020 and 2021, the opportunity to play and compete at a higher level of lacrosse and fill the developmental and competition gap which occurred due to the pandemic.

Over the next few weeks ALA and MAs will send out an expression of interest survey to engage feedback and interest from players and families regarding this opportunity which will assist with our plans and finalisation of the event. These EOIs will help ascertain if such an event is wanted and viable.

The ALA and all Member Associations (MAs) continue to work together to monitor the current level of restrictions and impacts relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. If these restrictions and impacts begin to affect the ability to deliver sport or events the ALA and MAs will make swift and early decisions to reduce the impacts and risks and provide absolute clarity for players, coaches and the general community.

ALA would like to take this opportunity to thank our Member Associations' and the Athlete Advisory Committee’s support, communication, engagement and willingness to work through these decisions which have led to such positive outcomes.
