 David Campbell ALA RIC

The ALA takes great pleasure in announcing the appointment of David Campbell to the role of ALA Referee In Chief (ALA RIC).

David has successfully fulfilled the role of South Australian Chief Referee since 2018. He has been successful in being selected for the position of ALA Referee in Chief for a period of two years, from November 1st, 2020 until October 31st, 2022. David will be a key member of the ALA Men’s National Technical Committee (MNTC) and will provide leadership in Men’s Lacrosse officiating throughout Australia.

David brings to the role a wealth of experience and knowledge from both his lacrosse and professional careers. David has 25 years’ experience in the Information Technology and Defence Contracting industries. He has an extensive knowledge of a great many things related to the world of Information Technology, but also of business and team’s management.

David played for the Burnside Lacrosse Club and is a Life Member of that club and of the Australian Lacrosse Referees Association (ALRA SA). He has been refereeing for over 18 years locally in South Australia. He has officiated numerous SA State League Grand Finals, and ALA National Championships.
He commenced his international refereeing career in London Ontario, Canada, at the 2006 FIL Men’s World Championship. Since then he has officiated at one U19 Men’s World Championship and four Men’s Lacrosse World Championships. The latest international event he refereed was in the 2018 Men’s World Championship in Netanya, Israel, but the highlight was undoubtably his appointment to the Head Referee role in the 2014 Men’s World Championship Final in Denver, Colorado, USA.

Recently David has been focussing on the development and mentoring of referees through coaching locally, nationally, and recently at the 2019 Asia Pacific Championship in Gyeongju, South Korea.

This year David played a key role in guiding the local officiating body in SA through the difficulties presented by the COVID pandemic, in enabling the Women’s Umpires to join with the Men’s Referees under ALRA SA, while also negotiating directly with the SA Lacrosse Clubs to facilitate the allocation of officials to Men’s and Women’s games for the 2020 Season.

David will assume the role from his mentor and friend Dennis Mulroney, also a Burnside Lacrosse Club and ALRA Life Member. Dennis has held the position of ALA RIC for the last 6 years and retires at the end of this month. The ALA thanks Dennis for all his work on the Men’s National Technical Committee over the last 18 years and his contribution to Lacrosse Officiating in Australia.

On behalf of the ALA I welcome David Campbell to the Referee in Chief role and look forward to his contribution to Lacrosse Officiating at all levels in Australia.
