ALA together with Head Coach Trish Adams and General Manager Sue Sofarnos, are pleased to announce Adam Sear as Assistant Coach and Adam Joffe as Physiotherapist of the 2021 Australian Women's Team.
ASSISTANT COACH - ADAM SEAR
Adam brings a wealth of knowledge and perspective, having recently served a coaching role with the 2020 U19 Australian Men's Squad and is currently in his third year as Assistant Coach of NCAA D1 Michigan Women's Lacrosse Team.
Adam also coached youth lacrosse in California 2014- 2017 and NCAA D3 Stevenson University Men's Program for 2 years and NCAA D3 Ferrum College for 2 years. Previous to coaching roles, Adam attended NCAA DI University of Maryland and represented Australia at the 2010 Men's World Championship in Manchester England.
“We are thrilled to welcome Adam to the team. Adam has a passion and commitment for high performance athletes and sport and has practiced for the past 10 years at The Joint Physiotherapy in Caulfield.
“We are very excited to have Adam join us as Physiotherapist for the team. Adam has demonstrated a strong commitment to the squad and our continued growth since the beginning of the campaign. ANNOUNCEMENT – Australian Women’s & U23 Women’s Squad, UPDATE
Following the March Squad Camp in Adelaide, ALA together with Head Coach Trish Adams and General Manager Sue Sofarnos, is excited to add further strength to the Senior and U23 Squads, with the inclusions of; Senior - Kahli Evans SA and U23 - Rhiannon Panting WA and Annabel Williams VIC.
"Given they were unable to attend the January 2020 SXT, this was our first opportunity to assess them in a senior elite lacrosse environment. In further consultation, ALA will increase the number of the Senior Squad from 30 up to 32, in line with the Men's Squad number.

ANNOUNCEMENT - HEAD COACH AND GENERAL MANAGER
ALA is excited to announce Trish Adams as Head Coach and Sue Sofarnos as General Manager, of the 2021 Australian Women's Team.
Together, both Trish and Sue make a formidable combination, with a wealth of experience and have much to offer our Australian athletes. The new team management structure will complement the new framework and long-term approach to the Women’s National Team program. Both have medalled Gold, Silver and Bronze at numerous world events and bring that knowledge and experience to a talented squad of players.
The 2021 Australian Women’s Team will compete at the;
- 2021 World Lacrosse Women’s World Championship, Towson MD USA.
- 2021 IWGA The World Games, Birmingham AL USA.
This is certainly an exciting time for the Senior National Team programs, with the World Games, being played with the new 6 v 6 format, currently being trialled by World Lacrosse.
There is also the introduction of a raft of new women’s rules for players and coaches to adapt to. We firmly believe that with Trish and Sue in place we have the right people to put Australia back on the podium and more importantly back to the Gold medal match.
Trish Adams:
Trish has a fantastic record of coaching Australian teams and has been involved as a coach in the National program since 2003. As a coach, her strength lies in the relationships she builds with her players to always get the best out of them.
Trish previously led the senior Australian Team as Head Coach in 2017 and served as Head Coach of the U19 Australian Team in 2011 and 2015. Trish has also played in World events at the Senior and U19 level, famously captaining the 1995 U19 team to the Gold medal.
Having played key coaching roles in seven Australian Teams and several years with State and Club Teams, Trish is well placed to lead the Australian Team for 2021, under the revised High-Performance Framework.
“I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to lead the 2021 Australian Women’s Lacrosse campaign alongside the extremely passionate & experienced Sue Sofarnos.
I am proud of all that has been accomplished by Australian Women’s Lacrosse to date and want to use that as a springboard to help us expand our vision and build momentum within this campaign. With a very talented playing group committed to the new ALA framework & vision we are eager to provide them with a strong platform of innovation, commitment & professionalism. I am honoured to support these incredible female athletes through this exciting journey as we strive for greatness in 2021”, said Trish Adams.
Sue Sofarnos:
Sue Sofarnos is one of Australia’s most decorated players and coaches. Her trademark as both is her passion for the game, her team and her players. Sue was previously Head Coach of the 2009 Australian Team, Team Analyst 2017 and was an Assistant Coach of the 2005 Australian Team which won the Gold Medal.
As an Australian Team player, Sue played in an astounding five World Cups, winning Gold in 1986 to compliment the gold in 2005.
With many years of coaching success at National, State and Club Teams, Sue is well equipped to add another dimension to our athletes and team.
“I’m very excited to be back involved with the Australian Women’s lacrosse program and I am extremely grateful to have this opportunity to work alongside Trish Adams again.
With lacrosse growing exponentially around the world, this new role of General Manager really reflects ALA’s commitment to evolve and refresh how we do things to stay relevant with the international High-Performance competition landscape.
We have a rich and proud history at the Women’s World Cup, and coupled with the wonderful group of talented and committed women in our player group, we can’t wait to get the squad together and make this campaign to Towson something special!”, said Sue Sofarnos.
ALA Congratulates Trish Adams and Sue Sofarnos.
